Barzakh will begin accepting original art, poetry, and prose submissions for our Winter 2025 issue on October 1st! We will be open for submissions from October 1st to December 1st, 2024. We can't wait to read/ see what you send us!

A note about submission fees
If it's within your means, please submit using the "Tip Jar" submission form below. We have very few "Non-Tip-Jar" submissions available at this time, and when they are used up, only tip-jar submissions will remain open.
In either case, we can't wait to read/ see your work!

Genre-Specific Guidelines:
- Prose (fiction/creative nonfiction/essay/ book review/ criticism) – Please upload one text file (DOCX, PDF, RTF, etc.) including up to 5000 words total (one long piece or up to 3 shorter pieces).
- Poetry – Please upload one text file (DOCX, PDF, RTF, etc.) including up to 3 poems.
- Multigenre/Hybrid/Digital Work – If the submission is text-based, please upload one text file (DOCX, PDF, RTF, etc.) including as many as 3 hybrid pieces. If the submission is image-based, please upload as many as six image files (IMG, PNG, TIF, etc.). If you'd like these pieces to be considered for our visual-art section, please include an image list that includes the title, date, size, medium, and year of each piece you submit.
- Visual Art – Please upload as many as six image files (IMG, PNG, TIF, etc.). Please include an image list that includes the title, date, size, medium, and year of each piece you submit.
Other Guidelines:
Simultaneous submissions are welcome and encouraged, but please let us know immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere. Be sure to include a brief third-person biography, in a language of your choice, with your cover letter so that we may properly credit your work should it be accepted. Barzakh is currently a non-paying market.
In the interest of accessibility, we accept submissions by postal mail. If you would like to submit by mail, please send your work to the address below. Typed manuscripts are preferred, but we will also accept handwritten work. Snail mail submissions are always free, but if you would like your manuscript returned to you be sure to include a self-addressed & stamped envelope:
